Thoughts from the Girl Next Door

3rd world purchases...

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Now Michelle, how do you feel after buying an expensive digital point-and-shoot camera in Cambodia from a sketchy market vendor? And how do you feel after you learned there is no warranty?

This is the first picture taken with my new [hopefully-not-pirated] tiny digital camera, the Canon Ixus 750 (known in the US as the Elph Powershot SD550). It has 7.1 MP, a huge screen on the back, and small video capability. I'm hoping this will inspire me to take more photos out at night with friends when I don't feel like lugging my "bear". And hopefully, it won't disintegrate in the next few weeks :). Michelle bought one too, so we're in this together!

My dad bought the SD550 just before Christmas, and I think he's been pretty happy with it. Fantastic resolution (7MP?), and that screen is HUGE for a camera that small.

Are you enjoying yours so far? Probably a lot easier to take photos "under the radar" -- your 20D probably attracts a lot of attention.

I've been pretty happy with it so far also. I've been doing drive-by "shootings" on motos, which I would never feel comfortable doing with my 20D. I've also been told it will be great to have in Nairobi where the streets aren't safe. I adore the large screen size!
